Windows Protected Print (WPP) allows only IPP-based printers and drivers. If a Printer Provisioning Profile attempts to deploy a standard PCL, PostScript, or vendor-specific driver to a WPP-enabled workstation, Windows blocks the installation.
The user may see the following notification in MyQ Desktop Client:
Configuring printers failed
The printer is not installed, and the error can occur again when Desktop Client refreshes its configuration.
Windows Event Viewer can report an error similar to:
Creating printer failed | Name=<printer name> | Error=This program is blocked by group policy. For more information, contact your system administrator.
Resolve the Provisioning Failure
Update the affected Printer Provisioning Profile to deploy an IPPS-based printer:

In the MyQ Web Interface, go to MyQ > Settings > Printer Provisioning.

Open the profile assigned to the affected workstation or user.

On the Client Printers tab, locate each client printer that uses a standard print driver.

Change its Print Driver Set to one that uses the built-in IPPS driver.

Save the profile.

In MyQ Desktop Client, select Update my printers to refresh the provisioned printers, or wait for the next automatic refresh.
Desktop Client removes or updates printers according to the effective provisioning profiles and installs the IPPS-based printer. Printer Provisioning Profiles define each client printer by its name, queue, and Print Driver Set. A manual refresh can be triggered with Update my printers.
If you cannot update the provisioning profile immediately, you can temporarily disable Printer Provisioning in the Desktop Client configuration profile. Existing provisioned printers are preserved, but Desktop Client does not update printers while provisioning is disabled.
Central/Site Environments
In a Central/Site deployment, a WPP-enabled workstation can connect to different Site Servers. If a Site provides a Printer Provisioning Profile that still deploys a standard driver, provisioning fails when Desktop Client applies that profile.
During a WPP transition, ensure that the provisioning profiles available from every Site used by WPP-enabled workstations deploy WPP-compatible printers.
