Once devices are prepared, the next step is adding them to MyQ. There are two methods – Printer Discovery and manual addition – and the right choice depends on the size and complexity of your fleet.
Printer Discovery vs. Manual Addition
Printer Discovery scans your network and identifies reachable devices automatically. MyQ presents the discovered devices for review and allows you to add all or selected devices in a single operation. Printer Discovery is usually the fastest approach for initial onboarding of larger fleets. It reduces manual entry and lets administrators review discovered devices before adding them.
Manual addition gives granular control over each device and is useful for selective additions – a single new device, a device on an isolated network segment, or a device that Printer Discovery cannot reach for network topology reasons.
A common pattern is to use Printer Discovery for initial fleet onboarding and manual addition for individual devices added later.

SNMP Strategy
MyQ uses SNMP to communicate with printing devices – to read counters, monitor status, and manage configuration. Three protocol versions are available:

SNMP v1: default setting, widely supported but transmits community strings in cleartext.

SNMP v2c: uses a community-string model similar to SNMP v1; do not treat it as a secure alternative to SNMP v3.

SNMP v3: supports authentication and encryption when those options are configured on both the device and in MyQ. Consider SNMP v3 where device-management traffic requires stronger protection.
SNMP profiles are configured in MyQ and assigned per device. Create SNMP profiles for groups of devices that share the same SNMP configuration. This may align with vendor or model groups, but the deciding factor is the SNMP settings required by the devices. If all devices share the same SNMP configuration, a single profile is sufficient.
Define the required SNMP and configuration profiles before running Printer Discovery. Configuration profiles are needed for discovery, and the SNMP profile is selected through the configuration profile. Getting these profiles right upfront reduces reconfiguration after devices are added.
Configuration Profiles
Configuration profiles are used to apply shared settings across groups of devices, such as terminal type, login methods, SNMP profile, network settings, and related options. Many device and terminal settings are controlled through the assigned profile, while device-specific values may still need to be reviewed separately.
Plan your profile structure before discovery. One profile per device type or vendor is often practical when those devices require different terminal packages, credentials, network settings, or SNMP settings. Use the Clone feature to duplicate an existing profile as the starting point for a new one rather than building from scratch. Note that when cloning a profile, existing printers assigned to the original profile are not automatically reassigned to the new one. Printer assignments must be updated separately.
