Standalone vs Multi-Site Scenarios
This section will help you determine the right deployment architecture for your MyQ X print environment based on your organization's size, geographic distribution, and technical requirements.
Notes
The MyQ X platform supports a maximum total of 30,000 devices managed across all connected sites.
A Print Server and Site Server are functionally identical components. A site server is a print server that is connected to a Central Server for unified management.
Deployment Decision Factors
When planning your deployment, consider these key factors:
Number of managed locations (single site vs. multiple sites).
Geographic distribution (proximity, time zones).
Infrastructure capabilities (network bandwidth, latency, hardware resources).
User and device scale (number of users and devices at each location).
Administrative requirements (centralized vs. distributed management).
Single Site Deployments
Single Site with a Standalone Print Server
Recommended for: Small to medium organizations with centralized operations.
Key characteristics:
Up to 600 printing devices.
Up to 10,000 Desktop Clients.
Single administrative domain.
Simpler maintenance and management.
Scalability Path: Organizations starting with a single print server can upgrade to a multi-server environment by migrating to a central-site architecture as requirements grow.
Single Site with Multiple Print Servers
Recommended for: Larger organizations with high print volumes and numerous devices in one location.
Key characteristics:
More than 600 devices at a single location.
More than 10,000 Desktop Clients.
Location-based printing services (proximity printing).
Failover and high availability requirements.
Multi-Site Deployments
Multiple Locations with Print Server at Each Site
Recommended for: Organizations with multiple sites that require local print processing.
Key characteristics:
Geographically distributed operations, crossing multiple time zones.
Need for local print processing and spooling, for security or to reduce network traffic.
Multi-tenant administration requirements.
Large, geographically distributed user population (e.g. hundreds of thousands).
Multiple Remote Locations Managed by One Print Server
Recommended for: Organizations with a central office and smaller satellite locations.
Key characteristics:
One central print server managing multiple small branch offices.
Reduced IT overhead at remote locations.
Centralized administration.
Limited IT resources at remote locations.
Adequate network connectivity between sites.
Advanced Multi-Site Features
Job Roaming
Job Roaming enables seamless user experience across multiple site servers:
Users can view and release jobs from any site server.
Print jobs are automatically transferred between sites when needed.
Central Server coordinates job distribution and visibility.
For more information, see Job Roaming.
Local Spooling Options
Reduce network traffic between sites with these spooling alternatives:
Client Spooling with MyQ Desktop Client
Print data remains on user's computer until release.
Only metadata is transmitted to the print server.
When printing is initiated, data flows directly from client to printer.
Device Spooling with Embedded Terminals
Print jobs are sent directly to supported devices with MyQ Embedded Terminals.
Secure authenticated release is maintained without server intervention.
Supported on selected devices (see the documentation for the respective Embedded Terminal).
For more information, see Client Spooling and Device Spooling in the Deployment guide.
Cloud Storage Integration
Since MyQ X 10.2, cloud storage connections are synchronized across all site servers:
Users connect to cloud storage once at any site.
Connection is available automatically at all other site servers.
Eliminates the need for multiple authentication processes.
For more information, see Connect Storage.
Administrative Control
Multi-site deployments offer granular administration capabilities:
User synchronization configurable per site.
Rights and permissions can be assigned at the site level.
Supports the least-privilege security model.
Enables multi-tenant administration.

Site Server Deployment
To simplify your deployment, use standardized configurations across multiple site servers. This helps you ensure consistent environments across all sites.
Configure one site server to use as a template.
Use the Restore settings feature to replicate settings on another site server.
For more information, see MyQ Easy Config.
